GOLF_FLYER_2011.v.3_8.5x11_(2) Golf_Fact_Sheet Dear Dale, I would like to invite you and the ASouth Carolina membership to participate in our Second Annual Charity Golf Tournament supporting Georgia’s Wounded Warriors. The tournament kicks off with a Dinner the night of the 5th of June with the tournament being played on Monday, June 6 – D Day. This year’s event will be held at the Lake Lanier Islands Resort, Lake Lanier, Georgia. The Georgia Mountain Chapter of MOAA, Inc., the host of the event, is a 501 (c) (19) non-profit, tax exempt war veterans’ organization thus all donations to the event are tax deductible. Since our incorporation in December 2008 we have raised and donated in excess of $35,000 to benefit Georgia’s and America’s Wounded Warriors. The center piece of our efforts is the charity golf tournament. It is both a fun filled and a relaxing two days at the Resort for the Wounded Warrior and their families. The joy and appreciation expressed in just their faces cannot be described. In order to sustain this event we have in the past enlisted the support of several corporations and organizations to include; Genuine Parts (NAPA), USAA, Corporate Environments, Kipper Tools, MOAA, the Atlanta Falcons, and more. This event presents you a unique opportunity to further lend support to America’s Wounded Warriors. As such, I am requesting you pass the attached information to all of your chapters and consider entering the tournament, commit to attend the celebration dinner on the 5th, and field a team for the event. We have arranged for a great rate of $99.00 (excludes tax and gratuities) at the Legacy Lodge that will be honored up to three days prior to the tournament to three days after. The price of the dinner will be $55.00 with live entertainment featuring the “Ugly Cousins” band. If you have not been to the Islands you are in for a treat. The lodge and the golf course have been completely renovated and it rivals any 5 star resort you may have stayed at. Plus it will give you a sneak preview of where we intend to host the Georgia 2012 State Convention. Soldiers, Airman, Sailors, Marines, and Coast Guardsmen have and continue to safe guard the freedoms we enjoy each and every day. Theirs and their families’ sacrifices are many and this exciting, patriotic event gives us all an opportunity to express our gratitude and give a little back to them. Thank you in advance for your consideration and support and I am looking forward to seeing you at this year’s event! Note: I have attached both an entry form and fact sheet on the tournament for your use and to pass to your membership. Also, if any of your members know of an entity that would like to join our sponsor list, ask them to please let me know. We do have a briefing concerning the event and I would be glad to present it to any interested party. God Bless America and her warriors, Dave G David W. 7 April 2011 S.C. BlueCross sponsorship bolsters 2nd Annual Lt. Dan Weekend in Beaufort, S.C. Beaufort, S.C.—More than one hundred severely injured veterans and their caregivers from across the country will descend upon the small town of Beaufort, S.C. for four days this September to participate in the 2nd Annual, Lt. Dan Weekend. Coordinated by the Independence Fund, the event is designed to bring the community together in a show of support for some of the veterans who most often are the ones who “fall through the cracks.” Headlining the event for the second year in a row will be well known entertainer, Gary Sinise. Mr. Sinise, widely known for his Oscar nominated performance as “Lt. Dan” in the 1996 film Forrest Gump has become the de facto face for the war wounded of Iraq and Afghanistan. Since 2003 his thirteen piece “Lt. Dan Band” has been entertaining the troops worldwide. “The LTDB does more than forty concerts across the globe every year, and I am thrilled to be able to return to Beaufort to perform on September 16th, 2011,” said Sinise. “The reception that the Band received last year in Beaufort was overwhelming and the compassion and dignity with which the community treated our injured veterans truly left such a favorable impression. I look forward to both the concert and parade this year.” The Benefit Concert is scheduled for 8:30 p.m., Friday, Sept 16th in historic Waterfront Park. Tickets are currently available on the event website: www.ltdanweeknd.com for a reduced price of $15. “The Lt. Dan Band provides an evening of world class entertainment, but we wanted to keep the price low in order to make the Benefit Concert accessible for everyone in the community,” said Independence Fund founder, Steve Danyluk. “With nearly 20,000 military retirees in Beaufort County, we hope to see a good number of them turn out in a show of support for their wounded brothers and sisters.” In addition to the Benefit Concert, Mr. Sinise has agreed to Grand Marshal Beaufort’s 300th Birthday parade the following morning. The parade will kick-off immediately following the Lt. Dan 5K in downtown Beaufort. “Having someone like Gary Sinise donate his time like this is probably the highest endorsement that both the Independence Fund and the City of Beaufort could possibly receive,” said Danyluk. “We are deeply grateful and appreciative that such an established company such as BlueCross finds this worthy of support.” The Independence Fund is a 501(c)3 organization. Donations to the group are tax-deductible and help provide injured troops with the tools, therapies and guidance that they might not otherwise be receiving. Amongst other accomplishments, the Indy Fund www.independencefund.org has purchased 20 robotic wheel chairs for injured veterans as part of its mission. The $25,000 iBOT® chairs were not covered by military insurance policies. Veterans injured post 9/11 with a disability rating of 30% or higher may apply for the all expense covered event by visiting www.ltdanweeknd.com and registering on the “ABOUT” page. BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina is an independent licensee of the Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association.
